RTIP members eligible for guaranteed acceptance for Entente Plus Extended Health Care plan

RTIP plan members are reviewing their insurance options after learning about the reduced travel coverage and increased premium for the RTIP Gold 750 plan. If that’s you, you’re not alone—our team has been hearing from many Ontario education retirees looking for stability, comprehensive coverage and clarity about their next steps.
What to know about changing your coverage from RTIP to the Entente Plus Group Insurance Program
If you’re currently enrolled in an RTIP plan, you can move to the comparable Entente Plus plan with guaranteed acceptance as long as you apply within 60 days of your RTIP coverage ending.
This means:
- Your coverage won’t be interrupted.
- You won’t be asked health questions or required to submit medical evidence.
Guaranteed acceptance eligibility by RTIP plan
RTIP Gold 750
- Eligible for guaranteed acceptance for Extended Health Care, which includes comprehensive travel coverage for up to 93 days per trip
- Eligible for guaranteed acceptance for Dental with the requirement to stay in the plan for at least 24 months (unless currently covered under the RTIP dental plan – in this case, the 24-month requirement doesn’t apply)
RTIP Gold 2500
- Eligible for guaranteed acceptance for Extended Health Care, which includes comprehensive travel coverage for up to 93 days per trip
- Eligible for guaranteed acceptance for Hospital and Convalescent Care plan
- Eligible for guaranteed acceptance for Dental with the requirement to stay in the plan for at least 24 months (unless currently covered under the RTIP dental plan – in this case, the 24-month requirement doesn’t apply)
RTIP Plus 4000
- Eligible for guaranteed acceptance for Extended Health Care, which includes comprehensive travel coverage for up to 93 days per trip
- Eligible for guaranteed acceptance for Hospital and Convalescent Care plan
- Eligible for guaranteed acceptance for Dental with the requirement to stay in the plan for at least 24 months (unless currently covered under the RTIP dental plan – in this case, the 24-month requirement doesn’t apply)
Compare coverage
The Entente Plus Group Insurance Program is structured differently from RTIP. We offer three plans:
- Extended Health Care with included travel coverage for trips up to 93 days
- Dental
- Hospital and Convalescent Care
You can mix and match plans and plan types (single, couple, or family) based on your needs.
Recent improvements to Entente Plus plans
For 2026, we’ve announced a few small improvements to our coverage:
- Dental plan: Complete dentures are now covered
- Extended Health Care plan: Fees for compounded medication now eligible for reimbursement
- Plan administration: We’re transitioning to GreenShield as our new administrator starting Jan. 1, 2026.
How to change your coverage to Entente Plus
- Contact RTIP to arrange cancellation of your current coverage.
- Choose the Entente Plus plans you want to apply for.
- Complete and submit the application form. You must apply within 60 days of your previous coverage termination date to be eligible for guaranteed acceptance.
No additional membership fee when you join with Entente Plus group insurance
Entente Education Canada members who join with Entente Plus coverage do not pay the annual membership fee and still enjoy all of the benefits of membership.
A note about our renaming
Our organization’s name changed from RTOERO to Entente Education Canada, effective Jan. 1, 2026. While the name is changing, our mission isn’t. Our team, values and commitment to supporting healthy aging for Canada’s education community and beyond remain as strong as ever. The Entente Plus Group Insurance Program continues to be built on the same non-profit, member-first foundation.
